Who We Are

Children Are The Hope (CATH) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that has engaged thousands of children in Wisconsin and Cuba through environmental, cultural, global, and art education programming.  CATH aims to weave stories of nature (including Sandhill Cranes) and culture together across geographic, cultural, political, and language barriers to guide children as they discover their individual and collective roles in making the world a better place through caring for the environment and each other.  CATH participants explore their own culture and landscapes as well as those of students in partnering countries.  This unique approach to global education integrates the arts, environment, and culture into all subject areas and compliments existing classroom curriculum to provide an opportunity for students to see the world beyond their front doors.  They quickly discover that we all have the ability, knowledge, and energy to work together to find solutions to social and environmental problems.  In a world where people sometimes have difficulty finding common ground on which to begin a journey of teamwork and solution finding, Children Are The Hope is a powerful avenue for students – for people – to find a story to write and share together.

“By caring for our cranes, we care for our world.

By caring for our world, we care for each other.

By caring for each other we find hope.”

~Korie M. Klink, CATH Founder and Director

In Wisconsin, we travel to participating classrooms at least five times throughout the year, provide scholarships for field trip learning opportunities, supply schools with necessary materials, and support the entire Children Are The Hope program.  Schools are never charged any fees to participate in Children Are The Hope… we remain fortunate in that we are able to engage with schools and classrooms at no cost to them.

In Cuba, we visit classrooms, offer training programs for classroom and non-formal educators and administrators, support our partner educators with much needed materials and supplies, and help guide the CATH program throughout the Grand Wetland of the North region.  Likewise, there are no fees for schools to participate in our activities in Cuba.

Our staff, partners, and Board of Directors are volunteers who are committed to sharing their passion, knowledge, sweat, and unending energy to bring Cuban and American people together in life-changing ways.  As we represent two groups of people who – at one level – don’t understand each other in great part due to political differences, the work of CATH is powerfully relevant.  We invite you to become part of our team… welcome.
